Mar. 3rd, 2008

Oh man. It's March.

Wow, 2008's a fast one. This year is just blazing past, but in a good way. I've been keeping really busy, so here's a little bit of what's been new with me:

- The apartment is more or less set up. Still a few things to organize and clean up, but it makes for a fun project when I have free time.

- Wait, free time? Not a whole lot of that. School is keeping me quite busy, I never would have imagined that taking 6 courses instead of 5 would result in so much more work. But hey, at least it's one less class to take next year.

- I'm continuing to take Capoeira. It's a heck of a lot of fun, and I can feel myself getting back into better shape. Funny story about Capoeira, we're required to buy this uniform that includes these special pants called abadas which are designed for movement. They're apparantly illegal to produce here in Canada but legal to import (Yeah, I thought it was weird too) so we have to purchase it from directly from the group. For $85. So I bought a pair, only to realize that 2 days after buying them they were splitting at the seams already. Worse, it was at the crotch. I asked the instructor to swap them out, he said his mother visiting from Brazil would fix them. Well, Brazilians are notorious for not being the most reliable, sure enough, she didn't fix them. When I asked the instructor how long it would take, he told me to take them to a tailor's to get them fixed, which shouldn't be more than $10-15. I just paid $85 for these ridiculous pants, now you want me to pay more?!? So I went, and very quietly, swapped out the old pair for a new one. Oops. ;) But it gets better. Because the tags are written in Portuguese, I didn't pay enough attention and actually got the wrong size, one that was too big for me. I thought I would work with it, only to find that this new pair had a sharpie stain on it's crotch. 0 for 2, both with crotch problems. Yeesh. Apparantly third time's the charm, because I went back and swapped them again. This third pair, no problems. About time. :)

- Laptop died last week, but it's in the repair shop, and I have a full backup. So an annoyance and a setback at worst, at least I have some access to my roommates' machines to get work done.

- Went back to Seattle for the weekend yesterday to celebrate Mom's birthday. Dad threw a fantastic bowling party, lots of good times and I got to make a few business connections, so we'll see where that leads.

So yeah, life is pretty good.

Whee.

Happy Valentines, all! Just thought I would share a delightful little detail of my day. I stayed up all night last night to finish a project and study for a midterm, so this was a rather exhausting 24 hours. After doing my midterm, presentation, and a group meeting, I headed to the classroom early for my last class. My last, and least favorite class, Government and Business. Which is when I discovered that in my sleepy haze, I had left my power adapter and video adapter for my laptop in the presentation classroom, in Buchanan.

Poo. Even though it had been a couple hours, I rushed over there from Angus, five minutes before class. Fortunately, the adapters were still there. But even better, it was 4:03pm.

Class started at 4pm. And yeah, sure, I could walk back and be back in the Angus classroom and just be a few minutes late... but nah. I wouldn't want to, ahem... "disturb the learning environment". So I went home.

And it's Reading Break! Huzzah! I think I'm off to sleep!

Moving Madness

Oh my.

This has been quite the weekend. After battling with U-Haul trying to reserve a suitable vehicle, I managed to score a cargo van and moved all of my worldly belongings (read: crap) from the Kitsilano basement suite to the Downtown apartment. Many, many thanks to Miss Nora and Miss Kelsey who took a day off to help, it would not have been possible without you guys.

The apartment is still in disarray. It's coming together really nicely, but we still have things moving in and out. We've been giving everything a scrubdown, and trying to get rid of furniture not from the previous round of roommates, but the round before that. But in the last weekend, we managed to get all the bedrooms, bathrooms, and living room mostly set up. Now only the kitchen, the office, and the last straggling pieces of furniture remain.

Waking up to a view has been awesome, and despite some complications with keys (the previous tenant still hasn't returned them), that situation should be rectified sometime this week. So yeah, life is pretty good.

However, there's still celebrations left to do! Once everything has been settled, a housewarming is definitely in order. Kelsey, Nora, Rachel and Gerritt, what say you? Party soon?

Eight years after the apocalypse...

Happy 2008, everybody!

It feels so surreal that it's already 2008, I remember ten years ago when Google was first founded, overtly baggy jeans was considered a viable fashion alternative, and we were all rocking out to the musical "talents" of N'sync and the Backstreet Boys (thank goodness THAT's over, although I'm not too sure if we're better or worse off now music-scene wise).

Now, normally I hate writing New Year's Resolutions, because I know I'll almost certainly break them. I resolve to study more, by February I'd be drunk in class (which isn't entirely bad, I might add.) I resolve to lose 10 pounds, in March you'd find me hiding in the freezer stuffing my face with Haagen-Dazs.

So this year, rather than writing resolutions, I'm going to write what I want out of 2008, and aim to make them happen. That way, I'm safe if some don't happen or if I decide to change my goals on a whim. So here's what I want from 2008:

- To switch into marketing (I just got this done! Woohoo!)
- Decent grades
- To get back into better shape (I'm trying out a capoeira class after this)
- A loan for next school year/financial independence
- An internship or job for the summer
- To stay positive, for and from myself and the people I surround myself with
- Plenty of debauchery (this may help with the previous one)
- A job for now, and with that comes
- Finally paying off that damn residual credit card debt from Japan
- Lots and lots of sexy electronics
- A travel fund

-Oh yeah, and I want booty. Lots of booty. That'd be nice too.
